Tallahassee Collegiate Academy is currently undergoing an accreditation process with Cognia, a global accreditation agency that assesses the quality of educational institutions. As part of this process, representatives from Cognia will be visiting our school to speak with students about their experiences.
A sample of students from each grade level will be selected to participate in a brief interview with Cognia representatives. This interview aims to gather feedback about our school’s environment, programs, and overall effectiveness in supporting student learning. We are writing to inform you of a lockdown that occurred at TCA this afternoon. There was a dangerous situation in the area and the college instructed everyone to shelter in place.
While the incident took place after school hours, there were still a number of students on campus for extracurricular activities.
Out of an abundance of caution, our school secured the campus under the guidance of the Tallahassee State College (TSC) police department. TSC police officers, the TSC police chief, and TSC emergency management and our school staff collaborated to ensure the safety of all

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I'm writing to inform you that today, during lunch, an EMS and Fire Truck approached our lunch area. There was a medical emergency that occurred at one of the nearby college buildings.

This emergency did not involve anyone at TCA.

To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, we did cut their lunch time 7 minutes early, and brought them inside as a precautionary measure to shield them from witnessing the medical emergency. I also asked students who were videotaping with their phones to put the phones away to protect the privacy of others.

Dear TCA Parents and Guardians,

We wanted to update you about TSC's after-school gym access policy.

TCA students will not be permitted to use the TSC gym after school until they are officially dual-enrolled in a TSC course, as they must present a college TSC ID for entry.

Last year, an exception was made to the policy of requiring a college ID for the gym access due to our small student population. However, as our school and the college have grown, and continue to grow, it has become necessary to enforce this requirement.

Good evening, parents,

Students received their laptops today. All students should have a laptop in a case with a charger. Our laptops are not Chromebooks, they are more expensive and advanced laptops in order to accommodate our students in their high school and college class programs.

Please note, if students do not remember their login, we will be assisting them tomorrow with all login situations. Our goal today was to get all laptops distributed. Dear Parents,

Today, TCA completed our Lockdown drill with the support of TCC Police Department and TCC Emergency Management. Teachers were aware that the drill was happening and prepped students beforehand. Moments before the drill began, Dean Gregory shared over the intercom what was going to happen and reminded students that this is a drill. In under 10 seconds, the entire building including classrooms were locked down. Within four minutes, the TCC Police Department checked and cleared the building.

I am writing to inform you of an update regarding drop off procedures at TCA due to recent traffic congestion reported in the area.

As per the request of TCC police department, we kindly request that 9th grade parents follow the gold route indicated on the attached map. The route directs drivers to take Collegiate Way to reach TCA. This adjustment aims to alleviate congestion in front of TCC's TPP building and to ensure smoother traffic flow during 9th grade drop-off times.

Around 1:50pm today, January 25th, we implemented a lockdown procedure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. The lockdown was lifted at 2:03pm and students were dismissed as usual per TCC Police Department's clearance.

Dear Parents,

I wanted to make you aware that this afternoon, our school went into a lockdown in response to what ended up being an unsubstantiated threat. Following protocols, we immediately implemented lockdown procedures. The TCC Police Department provided direct service within 1.5 minutes.

I requested additional officer detail due to the threat's proximity to dismissal. Extra officers were present at the parent pick-up and bus loops for enhanced security.

It was a wonderful day at TCA!

We celebrated the first FULL WEEK of classes today with our Back to School Ice Cream Social. Momma P's was on site and students enjoyed the refreshments after lunch.

Instruction is in full swing and students have begun to collaborate in class. I love seeing students working together in teams and it has been rewarding to visit classrooms this week and see the learning process in action. We already have student work displayed on our hallway Bright Sign players from this week! Thank you to Ms. Faison's Science classes for submitting

Dear Parents,

Today, TCA completed our Lockdown drill with the support of TCC Police Department and TCC Emergency Management. Teachers were aware that the drill was happening and prepped students beforehand. Moments before the drill began, I shared on the intercom what was going to happen and reminded students that this is a drill. In under 10 seconds, the entire building including classrooms were locked down. Within three minutes, the TCC Police Department checked and cleared the building.

We have been off to an amazing start here at Tallahassee Collegiate Academy! I have enjoyed meeting all of the students and I'm truly impressed with each one of them. Today, I had the chance to teach the leadership class for our monthly "Principal's Circle", and the SGA students worked with me to brainstorm some future activities that they would like to see happen on our campus. One was "ice cream social" and I was excited to let them know that I've gotten ahead of that one, already!

TCA Orientation #1 9:00-10:30 am

Stop by anytime between 9:00-10:30am to pick up your schedule, map and meet your teachers. Our student parking lot is currently being utilized for a construction project, so we ask if additional parking is needed for families to park at or near the TCC parking garage. The blue star on the map shows where parking is available. We can't wait to see everyone. If you aren't able to make it to this orientation, we have another one on Friday August 4, from 1:00-2:30pm.
